Immersive Encounters with Spain’s Past and Present
From Habsburg-era Madrid to Moorish Granada and Gaudí’s Barcelona, each city offers layers of history and cultural depth. You’ll enjoy authentic experiences, regional cuisine, and local insights beyond the standard sightseeing.
Highlights Along the Way
Madrid
Madrid is Spain’s vibrant capital and energetic heart, blending grand architecture, wide boulevards, leafy parks, and a rich royal and artistic heritage. The city’s landmarks such as the Royal Palace, Cibeles Fountain, and the expansive Retiro Park, tell stories of Spain’s monarchy, power, and cultural flourishing. Madrid pulses with life day and night: cafés buzz, museums display treasures, and locals balance tradition with cosmopolitan living.
On the Spanish Experience tour, guests will begin with a guided sightseeing orientation featuring the Royal Palace, Cibeles Fountain, and Retiro Park, all under the guidance of a Local Specialist. Free time lets you explore further. Perhaps by joining optional experiences like “Old Madrid with a Taste of Tapas” or an evening of dinner and discovery in downtown. For those interested in stepping outside the city, there’s the chance to visit Segovia, with its ancient Roman aqueduct and fairytale Alcázar.
Toledo
Toledo is a hilltop city often called the “City of Three Cultures,” owing to centuries of Christian, Muslim, and Jewish coexistence. Its narrow winding streets, massive city walls, soaring cathedral, and atmospheric plazas evoke a medieval past preserved in stone and light. Toledo feels like stepping into a time capsule, yet it remains alive with artisan workshops and local traditions.
On the tour, guests will take a sightseeing tour with a Local Guide in Toledo, including views of the Cathedral and one of the historic synagogues. You’ll also visit a steel workshop to see Toledo’s sword-making traditions up close. A craftsmanship that dates back through the centuries. It’s a chance to walk among ancient walls, learn about diverse histories, and soak up a quiet, majestic ambience that contrasts with the bustle of larger cities.
Seville
Seville, in southern Spain, is the passionate soul of Andalusia. With its exuberant Moorish architecture, orange trees, grand plaza gardens, and the monumental Seville Cathedral crowned by the Giralda Tower, this city is an intoxicating blend of history, religion, and art. Its Old Quarter is a maze of narrow alleys, ornate patios, and hidden corners. Inviting wandering and discovery.
Visitors on this tour will explore Seville with a guide, seeing the Cathedral, Giralda Tower, and other historic monuments. There’s free time to wander the Old Quarter at leisure, and optional experiences include visiting the Moorish Alcázar. In the evening, guests will likely choose one of the flamenco-style “Choice Experiences” to see a live flamenco show, taking in the drama, music, and energy that this city is famous for.
Granada
Granada is a jewel set in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada, famous for the Alhambra. Its ornate palaces, gardens, and fortifications built by the Nasrid dynasty. The city bears the imprint of Islamic influence in its architecture, its winding Albaicín quarter, and its hilltop views. Granada’s atmosphere is romantic and dramatic, especially at sunrise or sunset over the Alhambra and across the city.
Tour guests will enjoy a scenic drive into Granada, along with included sightseeing of the city’s Moorish heritage. Optional experiences offer deeper immersion: visiting the Albaicín and Royal Chapel, enjoying views from its ancient lanes, or spending an evening in Old Granada which may include traditional music or local culinary delights. The contrast between Granada’s historic splendor and the intimate charm of its old quarters is one of the tour’s truly memorable moments.
Valencia
Valencia offers a different flavour of Spain. Coastal, bright, modern yet steeped in history. It has both an old town with its historic gates and churches, and futuristic architecture like the City of Arts and Sciences. The city’s Mediterranean location gives it warm, breezy evenings and plenty of sunshine. Food culture is strong here too. Paella originates nearby, markets burst with fresh produce, and vibrant street life brims with local colour.
On the Spanish Experience tour, you’ll see Valencia’s Art Nouveau train station (Estación del Norte), the Mercado de Colón, the iconic Towers of Serrano and Quart, and the striking City of Arts and Sciences. For added flavour, there are optional experiences like Valencia’s Golden Age Walking Tour with horchata tasting, and a dinner & discovery evening where you can savour regional dishes and the lively Valencian ambience.
Barcelona
Barcelona is a coastal capital of art, architecture, beach-life, and modern Catalan spirit. Gaudí’s bold imagination shaped much of what you’ll see. From the swirling terraces of Park Güell to the soaring spires of La Sagrada Família. The Gothic Quarter adds layers of history with its narrow medieval alleys, while La Rambla and Passeig de Gràcia offer bustle, shops, cafés, and people-watching. There’s an energy here that fuses tradition with innovation.
Guests will enjoy guided sightseeing in Barcelona—including views of Gaudí’s La Sagrada Família (from outside), walks along La Rambla, and exploring iconic modernist architecture. Optional experiences include “Olympic Barcelona with Catalan Dinner,” allowing you to sample Catalan cuisine while enjoying vistas connected with the city’s Olympic legacy, or exploring Montserrat on mystical hillside trails. Whether you spend time in museums, gaze over city panoramas from Montjuïc, or enjoy the skyline at dusk, Barcelona offers rich rewards for both the curious and the contemplative.

Personal Thoughts
Having a Spanish partner means I’m fortunate enough to visit Spain often, and this tour is a wonderful reflection of the country I’ve come to know and love. I’ve explored these destinations many times, though Valencia still awaits me..
For me, Seville always stands out. Its history is everywhere you turn, from the majestic cathedral to the winding alleys of the old quarter, and it remains one of the most beautiful cities to simply wander through. Granada captivates me with the Alhambra. No matter how many times I’ve seen it, its detail and setting take my breath away. Barcelona, with its lively streets, striking Gaudí landmarks, and endless variety, always offers something new to discover. But above all, my greatest love in Spain is the food. Tapas, in particular, are an endless delight. I’ve yet to find one I don’t enjoy.
