DAY 1 Welcome to Rome

Ciao Roma! Begin your journey in this legendary city of emperors and senators, gods and goddesses. Meet your Travel Director for an introduction to the ‘Eternal City’, then enjoy exclusive after-hours access to the Basilica of Santa Maria in Cosmedin. Here you’ll see the famed Mouth of Truth, step inside the church and crypt, and discover the relics of Saint Valentine, patron saint of love. This evening, share a welcome dinner with your fellow travellers.

DAY 2 Discover Ancient Rome and the Vatican City

Today, the Holy See takes centre stage as you join a Local Specialist for a guided tour of the Vatican Museums. Marvel at Michelangelo’s stunning frescoed ceiling in the Sistine Chapel and view the exquisite marble Pietà in the Basilica. Then, cross the Tiber to step back into Ancient Rome. Explore the iconic Colosseum with your guide, and pass by the Circus Maximus, once famed for its thrilling chariot races. In the afternoon, enjoy some free time to discover Rome at your own pace—sip an espresso in the vibrant Piazza Navona or climb the iconic Spanish Steps.

DAY 3 Explore the Ruins of Pompeii and Sorrento

Travel south to explore the remarkably preserved ruins of Pompeii. In the company of a Local Specialist, uncover the story of the catastrophic eruption of Mount Vesuvius as you stroll along the ancient stone streets of this city frozen in time. Continue to the beautiful clifftop town of Sorrento, where your hotel awaits and dinner is served this evening.

DAY 4 A Day on the Isle of Capri

Take a ferry across the Bay of Naples to the glamorous Isle of Capri and discover some of its iconic sights. With a Local Specialist, stroll through Capri town, passing stylish boutiques and charming pavement cafés, before enjoying time at leisure to savour the island’s elegance. Later, return to the mainland.

DAY 5 Onwards to Assisi

Take in the sweeping views of the Bay of Naples and the imposing Mount Vesuvius as you depart the Sorrento coastline. On your journey north, catch sight of the Benedictine Abbey of Cassino, dramatically perched on a mountain peak and remembered as the site of the 1944 Battle of Monte Cassino. Continue to the slopes of Mount Subasio, arriving in the spiritual town of Assisi, birthplace of St. Francis. Here, a Local Specialist will guide you through the magnificent Basilica of St. Francis, after which you’ll have time at leisure to discover the charm of this medieval hilltop town.

DAY 6 Discover Verona and Venice

We journey through the glorious countryside of the Emilia Romagna region. This area is also renowned for its gastronomy and is credited with being the origin of tortellini, mortadella and parmesan cheese. Travel to Verona, the home of Shakespeare’s star-crossed lovers, to admire the Roman arena and Juliet’s Balcony. Arrive later in Venice, the ‘Queen of the Adriatic’.

DAY 7 St. Mark's and More in Venice

Glide through the canals of Venice by private launch, taking in the sights and sounds of what was once one of the world’s greatest ports. Your MAKE TRAVEL MATTER® Experience begins with a visit to local glassblowing artisans, where you’ll see centuries-old traditions brought to life. By supporting their craft, you help preserve a delicate Venetian art form—and you may be tempted to take home a unique keepsake. Continue on to St. Mark’s Square, passing the Bridge of Sighs and the Doge’s Palace before admiring the magnificent square and its basilica. Later, you might choose an optional visit to Burano, known for its brightly painted fishermen’s houses, or slip into a cosy bacaro to sample Venetian specialities—perhaps starting with the refreshing local favourite, a Venetian Spritz.

DAY 8 On to Milan and the Lakes

Today we cross the lush green plains of Lombardy to sophisticated Milan, Italy’s capital of design and fashion. An orientation tour takes us past the intricate Gothic Duomo, La Scala Opera House and the famous Galleria. Later arrive in the Italian Lakes where you’ll enjoy a dinner with your fellow travelling companions.

DAY 9 Stroll around Lake Como

This morning, the sparkling blue waters of Lake Como beckon. Enjoy some free time to soak up the lakeside lifestyle and take in the stunning scenery that has enchanted visitors for centuries. Stroll through Como’s historic quarter, savour the region’s delicious gelato, or consider a leisurely cruise on the lake. Later, relax at your lakeside resort or join an optional excursion to explore the magnificent palace and gardens of Isola Bella.

This evening, embark on a private boat to a secluded island on Lake Maggiore for a Be My Guest dinner, connecting with locals. Meet the Cinque family and discover the fascinating history of Villa Toscanini, set on a tiny, romantic island that once served as the retreat of the legendary Italian conductor Arturo Toscanini, one of the most influential musicians of the 19th century.

DAY 10 Admire Pisa and on to Florence

Journey through Tuscany, crossing the forested Apennine Mountains and passing the renowned marble quarries of Carrara. Arrive in Pisa to visit the Square of Miracles, where you’ll have the chance to admire the world-famous Leaning Tower. Continue onward to Florence, celebrated as the ‘Cradle of the Renaissance’.

DAY 11 Experience Art and Architecture in Florence

Discover the lavish history of the Medici family and their enduring influence on art and architecture with a Local Specialist. Stroll through Piazza della Signoria, admiring its remarkable statues and palazzi, then take in breathtaking panoramic views of Florence from Piazzale Michelangelo, with the elegant Duomo and the nearly 700-year-old Ponte Vecchio dominating the skyline. Later, experience demonstrations of Florence’s historic craftsmanship, from fine leatherwork to exquisite 18-carat gold, and gain an appreciation for the skill and tradition behind these iconic local industries.

DAY 12 Treasures of San Gimignano and Return to Rome

This morning, pay a visit to the Florence American Cemetery and Memorial. Continue south to the enchanting Tuscan hill town of San Gimignano, famed for its remarkable medieval architecture and storied past. Explore the town centre, including the Piazza del Duomo, framed by medieval towers and 13th-century city walls. Return to Rome this evening for a delightful dinner shared with your Travel Director and fellow travellers.
